DescriptionGulf Shores, Alabama, suffers heavy oiling from the BP Gulf oil spill on the Fourth of July weekend when normally the beach would be crawling with thousands of sun loving tourists. Motels were half full and the beach was taken over by hired clean up crews trying to shovel the crude off the sand and into plastic bags 24 hours a day.
